NORWAY, Iowa — A Norway man has pled guilty to numerous charges after being arrested after an 18-hour standoff with police.
Nathan Varese pled guilty to interference with official acts, armed with firearm, possession of a controlled substance - methamphetamine and persons ineligible to carry dangerous weapons.
The standoff occurred the morning of Feb. 23 when Benton County Sheriff's deputies responded to reports of a man firing a gun outside of his home. The standoff lasted until about 3 a.m. when SWAT officers entered the home and Varese surrendered.
His sentencing is set for June 19, 2025.
