With a new moderator presiding, Windsor residents passed all articles at the annual town meeting

WINDSOR — With a new moderator and town clerk at the helm, 51 voters in Windsor passed the entire warrant in an hour and 14 minutes, including the operating budget of $1,482,615 — a 1.8 percent increase.

Town Administrator Madeline Scully spoke of the meeting in glowing terms, describing the voters as well informed with good questions and Charles Sturtevant as “the best moderator I’ve seen at a town meeting.”

She described the town meeting as warm, with testimonials offered to members of the fire department for their work as firefighters and providing emergency medical service.

The town voted in favor of borrowing $540,000 to buy and equip a new firetruck and of creating an EMS service director with an annual stipend of $2,000.

Scully said there was no discussion on Windsor’s $945,273 assessment to Central Berkshire Regional School District or the updated regional agreement for that district. Both passed.

Voters also approved A $169,102 appropriation for vocational education, including salary for a driver and school bus maintenance.

Among the $775,000 capital requests, voters also approved borrowing $167,000 for the town’s 25 percent match in a grant to pay for construction of a culvert on Cheshire Road.

Town Clerk Sandy Kalmus prepared a certified copy of the minutes the following day.

Monday's town election features an opening to replace Select Board member Janet Sadlo, who chose not to seek reelection, but no one has taken out papers to run for that seat.

“We can run it with two, but it would be nice to have a third,” Scully said of the size of the board.

Polls will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Town Hall, 1927 Route 9.
