Bienvenue: Parisian-style cafe Soutine has returned to St John's Wood

...and they're off. After four months of deafening silence, restaurants across the capital have flung their doors open to as many socially distant customers as as they can fit inside (and out), and things are not so different after all.

It's a joy to have the chance to be back out, in the buzz and throng of a dining room: as the Standard's Jimi Famurewa put it, "the notion of sitting at a table, served and fed by someone else, feels at once soothingly quaint and impossibly lavish."

It took the public a little while to warm up to the idea of dining out again, but August saw early-week customers arrive in their droves to many of the capital's restaurants thanks to the government's Eat Out to Help Out scheme (an idea so popular that many restaurants are carrying it on into September off their own backs).

Not every restaurant opened on July 4 either; some because it was impossible to – either owning to finances or space or something else – others because they're waiting to see how others get on. And so, we've been keeping tabs of where is open to date, and we're running a list of openings still to come here.

With thousands of restaurants across London, we're not able to track them all, but below is a list of some of the city's most famous spots that are back. It's still a long list; if you're after a specific place, your browser's search function is probably the best place to start. Tuck in.
