Kuwait's diplomatic missions abroad continues to celebrate nat'l occasions


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, Feb 23 (KUNA) -- Kuwaiti embassies and diplomatic missions abroad continued to hold celebrations to commemorate Kuwait's 57th National Day 27th Liberation Anniversary.

In Brussels, delivering a speech on the occasion, Kuwait's Ambassador to Belgium, EU, NATO, and Luxembourg Jassim Al-Budaiwi congratulated His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and to the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on the advent of the national celebrations.

Al-Budaiwi said that Kuwait-Belgium relations are looking into new horizons and opportunities, adding "There will be a high ranking visit from Kuwait to Belgium in March to look at the possibilities of signing agreements to cement the cooperation and relations between the two countries." Meanwhile, the Kuwaiti Embassy in Tokyo held a similar reception on Thursday to mark the national celebration. The guests included State Minister for Foreign Affairs Masahisa Sato, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan Manabu Horii and other high-ranking officials, political and military figures, businessmen, academics, diplomats and media figures as well as representatives of the Japan-Kuwait Society.

In his speech at the reception, Horii said that the Japanese people would never forget for the heart-warming support by Kuwait in response to the 2011 earthquake-tsunami disaster in northeastern region as well as another major quake in southern prefecture of Kumamoto in 2016. "A friend in need is a friend indeed," he added.

For his part, Kuwait's Ambassador Abdulrahman Al-Otaibi stressed that Kuwait's relation with Japan is historic, established on all levels, strong in various cooperation fields, and is characterized by a convergence of both countries' viewpoints on many international and regional issues. He pointed out that the Kuwait-Japan relationship is outlined by several agreements and memoranda of cooperation covering political, economic, environmental, defense, cultural and scientific fields.

"Cooperation between our countries expanded beyond the traditional energy framework," Al-Otaibi said, adding that Japan is Kuwait's fourth trade partner with the total value of bilateral trade at USD 7.4 billion last year.

"Since the seventies and eighties, Japanese companies have been the primary contributors in realizing infrastructure and mega development projects in Kuwait and they are still interested in taking part in development plans, mainly, energy and environment projects." According to the ambassador, Japanese firms are currently engaged in several strategic megaprojects in Kuwait such as the Clean Fuel Project and Zour I Power Plant Project through a global consortium.

On their parts, Kuwaiti Ambassadors to Egypt, Turkey, Singapore, Morocco, Austria, Mauritania, South Africa, and Spain -- Mohammad Al-Thuwaikh, Ghassan Al-Zawawi, Yaqoub Al-Sanad, Abdulatif Al-Yahya, Mohammad Marafi, Mohammad Al-Shaibani, Hassan Al-Oqab, and Suleiman Al-Harbi respectively-- all delivered speeches, congratulating and the Kuwaiti leadership and people on the advent of the national occasions, expressing wishes for further welfare and development to the State of Kuwait.

The Ambassadors thanked their respective host nations for their sincere wishes for Kuwait, affirming that they would do all they can to further develop bilateral relations.

Senior officials attending the various Kuwaiti festivities around the world, such as Egyptian Parliamentary Affairs Minister Omar Marwan, Turkish Parliament Speaker Ismail Kahraman, IAEA's Director General Yukiya Amano, and many others, congratulated the Kuwaiti leadership and people on the advent of national days, wishing further progress and development to Kuwait.
