Kathy Jorgenson

Kathy Jorgenson from Morton has received the DFL endorsement for Senate District 16A state representative. Jorgenson has lived in Morton for four years and is on the city council as well as being active in the Morton Community Foundation. Senate District 16A includes all of Renville and Chippewa counties, the west side of Meeker County and the southeastern corner of Kandiyohi County.

Jorgenson has a Master’s Degree in Natural Resources Management from NDSU. She has worked at Central Regions Cooperative as an agronomist. Before moving to Minnesota, she ran for the state legislature in North Dakota. Jorgenson grew up on a ranch in western North Dakota and continues to ride horses. She currently works in agronomy. She is the mother of three adult children.

According to Mary Sullivan, SD16 DFL Secretary, many of the issues that concern Jorgenson are related to life in rural Minnesota. She would like to see fiber optic internet services extended to all residents. She supports legislation to support beginning farmers and to develop food distribution networks to extend markets for local farmers. She would like laws that would improve healthcare options for all in our rural areas, that would increase the availability of childcare, and that would increase affordable housing in rural Minnesota.

“I am very excited to be selected as candidate for 16A,” Jorgenson said. “I will work hard to represent our district and bring forth a positive working relationship with all sides.”
