KYIV. Jan 19 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Acting head of the parliamentary committee for the fuel and energy complex Oleksandr Dombrovsky backs construction of a large solar power plant in the Chornobyl zone if the price of electricity generated by the plant is set at an auction, he said at a press conference at Interfax-Ukraine on Thursday.

"Construction of large generating facilities in the Chornobyl zone, not far from Kyiv, is good, but I am categorically against the introduction of this project on the terms of today's feed-in tariff. I believe a law allowing the auction should be passed. The company that will offer the lowest tariff for electricity for the highest technological level of the station should implement the project," he said.

Dombrovsky said that in his opinion, according to the results of the auction, the price of 1 kWh of electricity sold by a solar power plant will be 4-5 times lower than the current feed-in tariff.

As reported, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine is working to attract investors for the construction of solar power plants with a capacity of up to 1.2 GW in the Chornobyl zone.
